Jun 2008

Friends,

This year the Mumbairains arrived in great style and also gave some heart stopping moments to Mumbaikars. To help flood-afflicted car travelers, the BMC has declared some open spaces as special parking zones in times of such an eventuality. Also, do not forget to keep that hammer in the car for a situation where the car windows get jammed.Alot of information seems to be doing the rounds on the internet, such as dates when floods are likely to occur due to high tides. Two such occasions prominently occurring are the 1 weeks of both July &August.

While we were caught in the first showers, many of our friends were busy visiting the Mecca of our Industry, 'DRUPA 2008'. The off-hand reports that were received indicated that the footfalls seemed to be less than the usual and there was no noticeable breakthrough on the technology front. Nevertheless, the grandeur was as usual.

An increasing number of printers are adopting newer and modern tecnologies . The growth of such organisations indicates that recession is nothing but a changing trend towards adoption of a new working style. The modern business style is to completely favour the consumers. It ensures that they get optimum quality products at bare minimum price. Probably in all areas of life the consumers are getting products at the most competitive prices, which is definitely lower than yesterday's prices; and the printing industry is no exception. To meet this challenge, printers today, have to find solutions instead of fretting over the declining prices. Those printers having such a vision, have already taken a step towards it and are able to produce printed products at much lower unit price by adopting new technologies.

But adopting newer technologies would also mean getting trained people, which is a scarce commodity in Printing. Therefore, at MMP's Institute of Printing Technology – Panvel, we have come out with the concept of 'adopting a student'. Here, we encourage a printing press to take one of our students under their umbrella and allow him to attend the press for some period & acquire hands-on exposure in today's technology. As the adage goes, . If the student is found to be good, they may absorb him in their unit after he/she completes the course. Interested presses are requested to contact our secretariat in this regard.

Moreover, our Panvel institute's Library needs good 'reference books' and the demo centre needs some 'machines in working condition' in the pre-press, press& post-press arenas. We can provide a detailed list of the books required in the library with its approximate cost. You can even sponsor a few books to the institute in this way. Interested donours/ sponsors are requested to contact our secretariat or us directly.

Mumbai Mudrak Sangh is geared to create a 'Monsoon Dhamaka' with its excursion slated for its members on 26 – 27 July to Karla. Information about this is given elsewhere in this bulletin. Please register yourself as well as your family members for an unforgettable experience. Please keep sending us suggestions about the seminars or programs you need.We will be only too happy to oblige.
